At this time of the year, we often receive questions from parents with kids new to baseball about what equipment is needed to play baseball.
Mandatory
1) Glove - it is important to try on a glove and make sure it is not too big. Please be sure to get the glove on the correct hand as often it is tough to tell the strong arm for very young kids.
2) Baseball Helmet - for safety reasons, no player is allowed to swing a bat without a helmet. It is important for safety and sanitary reasons that each player bring their own helmet (in extenuating circumstances a helmet can be borrowed).
3) Jock or Jill - this is self explanatory but crucial to avoid injury.
Highly Recommended
4) Aluminum Baseball Bat - while the program provides bats for each team< we strong encourage all players to get their own bat . We recommend that the player ask for assistance at the sporting goods store to ensure the bat purchased is the proper length and weight.
Optional
5) Batting Gloves - only if a player wants to look like a major leaguer
6) Catcher's Gear - if a player is very interested in the catcher position, then he or she can purchase full catcher's equipment including specialty glove. However, catcher's gear is provided to each team.
7) Cool Sun Glasses - totally optional
8) Baseball Bag - each player on a travel Hornets team receives a player carry bag as part of enrolment fees. For beginners, a custom baseball travel bag is not necessary.
The program will supply baseballs for games and practices but we encourage players to get their own ball to practice with at home or with friends. Each player will receive a uniform including cap on Opening Day.
Where To Go To Purchase Baseball Gear?
