As the dog days of winter descend on Muskoka, several Hornets travel teams are busy with indoor training which started recently in Gravenhurst.  In addition, five members of the Muskoka Hornets U17 Elite team travelled to New Lowell recently to participate in the Smith Brothers Showcase event.

With 15 or so baseball scouts in attendance, all of the Hornets players looked in mid-season form.  Special mention to  Andrew Haynes (pictured), who tied for the lead with fastball velocity, clocking a peak fastball of 81 miles per hour.

The U17 Elites have a busy schedule ahead of them this spring and summer.  When indoor training ends in April, the U17s will quickly transition into game play.  The locals will play a 24 game league schedule against teams from as far north as Sudbury to as far east as Ajax.  In addition, the Hornets will play in up to 6 tournaments, two of which will be played at US university diamonds, in Indiana and Pennsylvania respectively.
